The whole situation is indeed frustrating. Those sites blocked in your authority might be viewable elsewhere and vice versa. On one day we found that our blogs were blocked simply because some in admin had decided that the word blog was to be filtered...insane.
Animoto's ace isn't it? I've not done so yet but am waiting for the ideal moment to use voicethread.

You throw up the good point that we all don't push forward enough a lot of the time... that pretty much all of the most useful tools cost nothing and are already out there on the net and require no installation time. The sad thing as you've said is that on the most part they are blocked. The most disappointing thing for me though when it comes to the current state of content filtering, as you may or may not know is consistency. I touched upon it (in a round about way) in my overdue comment on my latest s2oh post, it just seems as if many administrators block things purely because they don't know what they do. If this is the case then to me it makes the whole situation a whole load more frustrating.
