I am putting a call out to bloggers in Edinburgh and the Lothians for feedback on their school week, particularly in the secondary sector.
Aberdeenshire are currently "consulting" on the new Curriculum framework with regard to A Curriculum for Excellence. One of the proposals, and the one which is bound to generate the most discussion is that to unify and change the arrangements of the school week.
As you guys down there have this in place can you shed any light on how it has affected teaching, learning, collegiate working and childcare issues amongst others.

Having just moved from East Lothian to the Borders I can say I really miss the asymmetric week. Having Friday afternoon as a pupil was fantastic, I don't remember childcare ever being a problem - we just went out and played football or went to the swimming pool. As a teacher last year the Friday afternoon was a great time to do extra curricular clubs, or for last minute folio work. It was also used for collegiate work or CPD instead of twylight sessions.
I've just missed a similar consultation process in the Borders. If you have this chance in Aberdeenshire then if I were you I would grab it with both hands!
