In order to scare help you with your speaking (and listening) for your prelim, below are two examples of ACTUAL listening tests from last years diet of exams.
Remember, the test itself consists of a presentation on a topic of your choice from those covered over the year, and a discussion which will start on this theme and lead into one more.
I want you to listen to the tests and do a few things:
- identify good phrases used by the candidate in both the presentation and discussion
- identify 2-3 major errors
- grade the overall peformance using the grade related criteria provided noting reasons why you would give it that grade
You will need to listen more than once to these tests. Think about the sorts of things we discussed in class. Hopefully by doing this it will give you a good idea of what you are in for.
