You are each going to play the part of either a sales assistant or a customer wishing to buy an item of clothing.
In order to replicate a real situation as much as possible you won’t know who will be your partner for this task. You will be asked to prepare possible phrases that could be useful in such a situation and which you can adapt to the circumstances all based on the vocabulary we have covered recently.

Once you have worked out you’re the vocabulary you think you will need, try to practise it and learn it at home for Thursday 31st May. (If there is time I can record it for you.)
On that day we are going to set up a “market” where you are going to go to various traders and ask for items of clothing…AND CHAOS WILL PROBABLY REIGN.

Sales assistants:
Your vocabulary should include but is not limited to:
Greeting customers and asking what they want
Asking about sizes, colours and materials
Giving advice on availability of sizes & colours
Saying whether or not something is in stock
Indicating location of changing rooms
Advising how something looks / fits
Giving price
Trying to sell another item to go with the one to be purchased

Customer:
Your vocabulary should include but is not limited to:
Explaining what you want
Giving details about size, colour, material
Responding to lack of availability
Asking to try something on
Asking how something looks / fits
Saying you dislike a colour or material
Asking price
Accepting/ declining sales assistants suggestions for further purchases

That was the task.

Here's the outcome.

Just by listening to this you get the impression that you actually enjoyed yourselves SPEAKING FRENCH. The overwhelming majority of you got on with the task extremely well. Have a laugh at yourselves but give yourselves a pat on the back. WELL DONE.

2B Presentations

Der schönste Ausflug meines Lebens.

Rather than do the usual pupil to teacher speaking assessment I asked 2H to prepare a presentation on the theme of "Der schönste Ausflug meines Lebens". They could present in pairs or on their own and it could take any format; powerpoint, film, poem, song etc. I asked for 5 basic questions to be answered:

• where they went
• who they went with
• how they got there
• what it was like
• what they did

I also gave three stipulations:

• excellent German
• imaginative and visual
• broadcast quality

Here are the results. Have a listen to the recordings and look at the files of one or two pupils and write a comment. How well were the five questions answered? How far were the 3 stipulations met. REMEMBER LEAVE 2 POSITIVE COMMENTS AND ONE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.

PS Just thought I should add a general comment on all your work. I have been very impressed with the effort and imagination that has gone into your presentations. I have particularly enjoyed looking at your powerpoints, videos and slideshows. And the standard of some of your French was outstanding. One slight gripe however would be that some of you have spent a little more time on the visual aspects of your presentations to the detriment of your french at times...BUT on the whole well done.

More stuff to do when the snow comes

In addition to recording radio shows with S2 classes our collapsed S3 classes produced powerpoint presentations showing how they would organise a trip to Paris. As you can see they have extremely expensive tastes.

What to do when the snow comes

PODCASTS ARE EASY (ish)

The snow has arrived in Huntly and most of the students aren't in. Classes have been collapsed but Teaching and Learning goes on. But what to do with 20+ pupils spread from 3 different classes. Ideally we should all be at the same point in the scheme of work but this is reality at the chalk face.

3 teachers, 20 kids, the necessary equipment. Make radio shows. Yes in a 50 minute period the students managed to generate enough ideas and produce enough German to come up with a short radio news programme. FANTASTIC.

Only got one recorded in the time but the rest will appear tomorrow (if we are in.)

As a class project 2B were divided into groups and asked to produce a radio show around the theme of their freetime activities. Here are the results.

Listen to them and leave a comment. When leaving a comment make sure you specify which radio programme you were listening to. Try to mention two positive things about the performances and suggest one way to make an improvement.
